Furniture shops and stores you want to know about
Where to go?
Your room is not yours without the furniture to make it special. A lot of the student accommodation comes unfurnished, so you will be required to furnish it yourself. Often, you can pick up cheap second hand furniture through Groningen based Facebook pages such as For sale Groningen or For sale Groningen 2 or For sale Groningen for everyone. Although this is usually the cheapest option, you may have to arrange delivery yourself (see section below). You can also take a look at Marktplaats, a website where people can sell old furniture and other items.
Another cheap option for students is to check out a second hand store (kringloopwinkel). There are a number of kringloopwinkels located in and around Groningen. Mamamini Groningen is a very large second hand store with a wide range of furniture and other household items on offer. You can also check out kringloopwinkel Plus and kringloopwinkel Goudgoed also collect your old furniture for free if it is of a good enough standard.
Google “kringloopwinkel” and you will find many more!
If you prefer new furniture rather than second hand, there are numerous stores in the city where you can find what you need like Ikea, Action, Xenos, Hema, Blokker, Kwantum, or Jysk. Some of these stores have online shops as well so they can deliver to your house.
New in the city is the Praxis city store. This is a small hardware store where you can also make or repair some of your furniture. If you have a small DIY-project in mind with the materials you can buy at the praxis, the ‘klushoek’ is free of use.praxis city store
